10% Dance - 25th anniversary
☛At the arborteum
☛A bald cypress sheds
November is one of those months where the sun disappears for days (or weeks!) at a time. Is there anything to do but curl up in a fetal position as the days shorten? Maybe you should take a trip to the Arboretum (pictured) to experience the last signs of life outdoors.

Conversation focused on our sometimes troubled relationship with our iPhones. For example, Ben feels withdrawal when he forgets his iPhone in his car. And Don experienced a momentary lapse in which he was unable to type into the gadget.

Jim decided to put on his dancing shoes and attend the 10% Society Dance at the Orpheum tonight.

Don and Oliver argue about which is better—cooked cranberry sauce or uncooked cranberry relish. Don claims that uncooked cranberries have more vitamins, but Oliver says that you miss the fun of hearing the little cranberries go “pop pop” in your pot. Don is very proud of his cranberry relish, which uses the whole orange rind and apples.

Don finally ate at Five Guys Burgers as a result of Oliver's constant wheedling. They fry everything in peanut oil and give you free scoops of peanuts with every meal. The place is poison to Oliver, and Don thought the burger was just OK, and he doesn't see why it won so many awards on the East Coast.

Pumpkin season is fully upon us. Oliver spent a day off on Friday making pumpkin bread and pumpkin pie. New this year—he dispensed with the canned pumpkin and baked real little pie pumpkins! He brought half-a-loaf of bread to Greg and Fred as a care package—Fred is recovering from some back pain.

mulhern stopped by Oliver's to sample some port on Tuesday. The Croft Tawny label claimed it was a nutty, smoky port, but mulhern found it too sweet. She prefers the complex flavors of Wollersheim's port.

Overheard this week:

  • Oliver learns CNN's anchor Anderson Cooper is gay—how hot do you think he is?
  • mulhern likes the movie Brick, which reminds her of old Bogart films
  • Timmo feels the new Bond movie Quantum of Solace doesn't feature enough of Daniel Craig's hot body

Foodie Alert: For a light lunch and a cup of warm beverage, try Bradbury's, just off the square on Hamilton behind the Blue Marlin. Oliver had a tasty apple, squash, and chevre crepe ($5.50) there and enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate. The space is small, but inviting, with big window views.
