Mulhern said that Earlham has quite a few international students. If you're on the way to points East, they would enjoy having visitors! The group took a look at the menu at 8 Seasons Grille, but the selection was limited, so the group dined at Maharani instead. Jeff watched a movie about Tolstoy called The Last Station, featuring his favorite actress Helen Mirren. He questioned its historical accuracy, but said Mirren's performance was outstanding. Skye continues to read The Scar by China Miéville. He daydreams of meeting the author in person in London one day. Skye stopped in at Woof's a week ago but left shortly because of the loud music. Oliver suggested trying a weekday night instead. Don dined Friday night at Cilantro, by West Towne, which features fine Mexican dining. His mole was good but pricey ($18). At the other end of the spectrum, Jack and Tin ate at their favorite hole-in-the-wall, a taqueria on Park Street. Don mocked Oliver's random book choice of the week, The History of Western Furniture. Jack leapt to Oliver's defense, saying he saw a beautiful exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago, where each piece was so well-crafted that it almost brought him to tears. Conversation quickly turned to the blond, twin furniture experts on Antiques Roadshow. Jeff and Jack enjoyed lounging with Don at Farmer's Market, but the cold wind blew Oliver away. Last Sunday, during Ride the Drive, Oliver played emissary of peace, bringing Don a flower bouquet, purportedly from Mayor Dave and Lance Armstrong. Oliver walked down John Nolen, under the tunnel, snapping photos of the event. With apologies to Samuel Beckett, this is how conversation between Don and Oliver quickly devolves. O: I'm making rice pudding for the potluck. I'm not sure how to keep it cold. D: I have a cooler. Don't you have one? O: Really? You have a cooler? D: You know that! O: Is it green? D: No. It's purple. With pink polka dots. O: I think you take your cooler camping. D: Camping. What's that? Foodie Tip: Got marrow? Tin does, and the right place to get it in his opinion is The Coopers Tavern. The Roasted Bone Marrow ($6.95), served with toasted pumpernickel, is well worth the long wait. It surpasses the marrow at Graze, according to Tin. |
