Tom told how he is from Avon, a place Garrison Keillor put on the map with his fictionalized accounts of Lake Wobegon. This intrigued Oliver, who had listed Garrison Keillor as one of his celebrity crushes on Facebook. Nowell's mother swooped in, bearing armloads of food. Nowell shared the love, whipping up a batch of brownies and offering some to Jack and Oliver. In a bold attempt to steal the pomelo's thunder, Nowell wanted his brownies to be the fruit of the month. Jeff is planning an anti-Valentine's day celebration. Nowell latched on to the idea. Don dismissed Valentine's Day as a greeting-card holiday anyway while Oliver tried to defend it, pointing out that it is an actual saint's day. Jack was eager to get home after coffee at Fair Trade and clean his place. He wants to woo someone with good food on Superbowl Sunday. Can anyone say touchdown? Oliver took Friday off to travel south of the border and take his mom and her boyfriend to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Before departing on the Van Galder bus, Oliver was pleased to bump into several queer friends, including Al at the Union and noted diva Andrew Miller Rhodes. James came down last Sunday and joined some of the group for warm bowls of soup at Wasabi—perfect for James as a cold recovery measure. The night before, James and Ian enjoyed Rent at the Overture Center. In an adventuresome mood, Oliver ordered the gourd strip roll ($3.50) at Wasabi, soft, sweet, dark-brown slices of gourd wrapped in rice. There was much speculation about why the Capitol dome was lit a deep red. Match each response with the appropriate QSC member.
Foodie Tip: After a spell selling Hershey nuggets, Fair Trade and Michaelangelo's have brought back Ghirardelli chocolate squares (50¢ each). Oliver likes the dark chocolate and caramel flavors. Don felt the peanut butter squares pale in comparison to Reese's. Quiz Answers: 1c 2a 3b |
