| Fruit of the Month for August - Avocado |
Botanical Name: Persea americana
The avocado is a true berry, with a large egg-shaped pit. Its name derives from the Aztec ahuacatl, which means "testicle," and in Aztec culture, the avocado was known as a fertility food. Today, Mexico produces the most avocados in the world.
The fruit is unusual because of its low sugar and high fat content. The fat is predominantly the good sort—monosaturated, like the type you find in olive oil.
Best enjoyed raw, you find avocado in guacamole and sushi. The flesh turns brown, so after slicing, quickly add some citrus juice to preserve its color.
Certain dog foods, like Avoderm, play up their avocado content for healthy skin and a shiny coat. Hey, do they make this stuff for humans?

| The Queer Supper Club (QSC) is a group of gay people and their friends who meet to have dinner once a week Saturday night. We have met consistently since 1995 and follow these rules:
- We meet at the UW Memorial Union, starting with a snack around 7:15pm, Saturday night. Look for the Fruit of the Month!
- In the summer, weather permitting, we meet on the Memorial Union Terrace. In the winter or bad weather, we meet in the Lakefront Cafeteria.
- We decide where to eat at 7:30pm, but not before, and leave promptly afterwards.
- We dine somewhere within walking distance of Memorial Union.
- Afterwards, we go to a coffeeshop.
- E-mail the QSC webmaster
to join or simply look for our table, marked with the Fruit of the Month!
